Traditions have always been treasured by Colgate University students, faculty, staff, and alumni. From the number "13" to the torchlight procession, Colgate has developed several important traditions over its two hundred year history, many of which were influenced by the Classics. The three traditions highlighted here are the burning of Livy, the Colgate seal and motto, and the Mercury rivalry.
